New England States Open & District 1
District 1 contains States: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, & Vermont
District 1 Manager: Richard White

The New England States Open & District 1 Championship will be held at the home of Richard White, 8 Pine Street, Dover, Massachusetts 02030-2423 (map), Saturday, June 23, 2012.

  • Register 8:30 a.m. 1st round play starts at 9:30 a.m. - Over by generally 6 p.m.
  • Depending on the number of players, I'd like to use the same round-robin format we used last year:
  • Games to be played as soon as the players are ready to begin, go-as-you-please, round-robin with each round consisting of 1 game, draw for colors. (self-pairing after 1st round).
  • We deal with time control in this way. We've never used clocks because most players don't own them and aren't familiar with them. First round pairings are assigned by arrival time and after that, players match up as their games complete. So, if you're a slow player, fast player, or half-fast player (I think that's a Wiswell-ism), you'll have an opponent without having to wait for a round to complete. The last few years have worked out well under this system. There are generally 2 or 3 players who end up playing the last games after everyone else has finished and those games have been the decisive ones. It's unorthodox but it gets us through in one day in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Highest finishing N.E. resident will be the District One Champion; the highest finishing player from each N.E. state will be the Champion of that State.
  • We'll provide lunch, coffee and snacks.
  • No entry fee, no prize money, but you get your name on a plaque (contribution appreciated).
Sometimes the press shows up. http://www.wickedlocal.com/dover/fun/x3 ... z1HKex1U4p
  • There are hotels nearby (Needham, Natick, Dedham, etc).
