70th Annual West Tennessee Strawberry
Festival Checker Tournament
May 11th &
12th, 2007 (Friday & Saturday)
at the "The Regions Bank," 1214 Main St. downtown Humboldt, TN. Same location as in the past years. Business meeting and Registration at 8:30AM on Friday, May 11th with play to begin at 9:00AM, and continues until May 12 and expected to end around 2pm on Saturday. Frank and Mary Davis will again be referee and score keeper. The Humboldt Chamber of Commerce and the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival will again sponsor this tournament. We will again have plenty of free food from the restaurants! You won't have to go outside to eat or leave the bank unless you want to. Playing area is excellent; upstairs (has elevator). We always have a very good prize fund, between two and three thousand dollars in cash prizes. Free food, door prizes, drawing for tickets to fine restaurants. Please call early as possible for reservations. Tell them you are there for the checker tournament.
3 Fine Motels:
Deerfield Inn (731-824-4770) - 590 Hwy45 By-pass; King size bed $42 tax included; Double beds $52 tax included. Hugh Burton recommend this one, but you have to call early, as it fills up quickly (Non-Smoke Doubles for 5/10&11- $104.62)
The Heritage Inn (731-784-2278) - 3350 East End Dr.; single $46 tax included, double $51 tax included.
The Regal Inn (731-784-9693) - 618 N. 22nd Ave. $35.00. Tell them you are a checker player.

The 70th Annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival 3-move Open Checker Tournament was held at Humboldt, TN on May 11 & 12, 2007. There were two divisions consisting of 30 players. The prize fund was $2,360 ($600 entry fees plus $1,760 donations). Local restaurants donated food for lunch both days. Numerous door prizes were given with estimated value of $400. We would like to thank Hugh Burton, Larry Keen, the Chamber of Commerce, and all other contributors for putting this tournament together.
