GM World Champion Ron 'Suki' King of St. George, Barbados has successfully defended his GAYP World Title from all challengers.  He has kept his coveted GAYP World Title for the past 20 years!  This could be his toughest free style challenger yet since Dr. Beckwith is a worthy and proven Grandmaster who has prepared for this event while managing a full time career as a senior chemist at Ricerca Bioscience, LLC.

October 4th - 9th 2010
GM Richard Beckwith of Willoughby, Ohio - USA Challenger, vs GM Ronald "Suki" King of St. George, Barbados - World GAYP Champion for the WCDF World Championship.  This GAYP World Title Match - 1 hour for every 24 moves to each player - Restrictions: 3 times repeated position rule and 40-moves rule.

      10/4/10 - Monday - Day 1:
This WTM began with an early "Breakfast for Champions" hosted by match sponsor Mr. Joseph LoConti and
his agency,
Evergreen-Uni.
Then the signing of match contract by Ron " Suki " King, Dr. Richard Beckwith, and Alan Millhone as match referee.

10/5/10 - Tuesday - Day 2:

Alex Moiseyev committed, that Richard played safe and had Ron in a loss... which indeed didn't count but has it's own points.
After Game 6 was over, Mr. Joe LoConti invited everyone to lunch, but Ron refused and stayed in hotel until next game.
Alexandris next door is the official restaurant of Checker players while in Medina. Next round to begin at 3 PM today.

Alex Moiseyev committed, An interesting thing is that even after G6 potential loss, Ron still played SDC in Game 8 and fixed the hole in his play.

Game13. R. King vs R. Beckwith, 11-16 22-18 16-19, Red Wins!
Alex Moiseyev committed, Ron King has a lead!  After passing halfway of event, both players changed their course.
King opened G13 by 11-16 and won the game, Richard having red pieces opened both his games by 9-14.

Today Richard missed very strong continuation which leads to a  promising bridge ending and extremely uncomfortable play for Ron.
Though no scientific win, but obviously a lot of practical chances.

G21. R King with reds
(11-15, 22-18, 15-22, 25-18, 12-16), Draw
G22. R. Beckwith reds, SDC (game lasted 4 hrs.), Red Wins!

Match even.. two games to go.  After 22 games we have 2 bloody games, one missing win and one missing strong play - not bad at all for GAYP event!

Ron King lost his first GAYP game since 2004 when he played in 1st International GAYP - USA vs Barbados Match and lost one game.

Congratulations Ron!

The 2010 GAYP World Title Match was won by champion Ron King (Barbados) over Richard Beckwith (Willoughby, Ohio) by a score of 2-1 with 21 draws.  King won the final game after Beckwith tied the score by winning game 22.  The 24-game match was held October 4-9 at the Rodeway Inn, Medina, Ohio.  Alan Millhone was the referee.  Prize fund was $4,560 and was split 60-40 ($2,740 to Ron), and the players’ expenses (hotel, meals, flights) were also covered.  The primary Sponsor ($4,000) was EVERGREEN-UNI (Joe LoConti’s Firm).  Other donations were pledged or received by Sean Phillips ($500), Alan Millhone (winner’s plaque, scoresheets, table flags), Lynn Steelman (boards), Steve Holliday, Joe Weaver, Jay Hinnershitz, and John Reade ($20 each).  An annotated booklet of the games will be prepared for contributors, and also made available for sale for $7 (plus any extra for international shipping).  Contact beckwith24@msn.com or (440) 516-1284 for info.
