2010 Pool / International Checkers Festival  
The Pool Checkers / International Checkers Festival will be held November 6th - 7th , 2010  in Airport Inn & Suites, South Bend, IN


PECAN THOMPSON TOPS SOUTH BEND TOURNEY
 
  Charles "Pecan" Thompson, of Carol Stream, Illinois, defended his title in the 12th Annual South Bend Checker Festival by winning the Pool Checker tourney on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, with 31 points out of a possible 40.  Clorius "The Mongoose" Lay, Gary, Ind., was close behind with 29, and James "Pontiac" Sharp, Chicago, was third at 25.  The tourney was scored with 2 points per win and 1 per draw.
 
  Therman "Chicken George" Earnest, Chicago, was the most improved player with a sensational 24 points.  He was rated 8th out of the 11 players going in but finished 4th overall and won the Best Under 2000-rated player.  Arthur "Sonny" Bell, South Bend, won the 2nd Amateur prize with 22.  Chess-style ratings were assigned to each player based on earlier results in the South Bend series.
 
  Five different states were represented, including Jackie Carr who flew up from Houston, Texas, and Johnnie Coleman, who came on a bus from Washington, D.C.

          COLEMAN ROLLS IN BIG BOARD!
 
  Big-Board Master Johnnie Coleman, Seat Pleasant, Maryland, won 4 straight to win the International (100-square) checker competition on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, in South Bend, Indiana.  Roger Blaine, Mishawaka, Ind., nipped Pete Kuhr, South Bend, in the final game to edge out Arthur Bell for second place.  A special welcome to Larry Sealy, who drove up from Dayton, Ohio, to play in the festival for the first time in both Pool and International.
