RESULTS:

      As president of the Missouri Checker Association, I would like to thank all of those who attended our state GAYP tournament. Although we had a small turn-out, it was a very special unique one. The tournament was won by Joe McIntosh, a local player from St. Joseph who joined MCA that day. This was only the second tournament he had ever played in. Congratulations, Joe and welcome to our organization! Besides Joe and myself, we only had two other Missouri players: Wilma Wolverton, our secretary-treasurer, and last year’s GAYP champion, Ken Kelly. We were pleased to have our checker friends from Nebraska come down: John Pestal (and his lovely wife, Betty), Nebraska State Checker Champion many times; (John was also celebrating his birthday that day); Jim Albin, a great checker player who was their driver for the day in his “hybrid”; and Dave Stovie, Nebraska Checker President for many years. It is now two years since Dave had his heart transplant and we are always pleased to see how great he’s doing. I also want to thank Darlene Stallsworth for keeping score for us. Following the tournament, many of us went to Ryans for a great meal and enjoy the friendships and fellowship of our checker players.
