4th SportAccord World Mind Games, Beijing, China - December 11th thru 17th, 2014


The 4th SportAccord World Mind Games will be held in Beijing, China on December 11-17, 2014. The FMJD has offered WCDF the opportunity to include 3-Move English Checkers at this event alongside other mind games.  In addition to a prize fund, SportAccord offers free flights and accommodations to the four players & official. The WCDF nominee’s for this event will be Alex Moiseyev (USA), Lubabalo Kondlo (South Africa), Michele Borghetti (Italy) and Sergio Scarpetta (Italy).  Richard Beckwith, WCDF President, and Alan Millhone, ACF President will attend as official.

After a 8x8 English Checkers/Draughts" demonstration event" appearance in 2012, Checkers returns to SportAccord World Mind Games in the Olympic Village in Beijing, China on December 11-17. The four competitors (with expenses paid) were: Michele Borghetti (3-Move World Champion), Sergio Scarpetta (GAYP World Champion), Alex Moiseyev (2012 Gold Medalist), and Lubabalo Kondlo (2014 WQT winner). Referees are Richard Beckwith and Charles Walker.

Carlo Bordini commented, “Friday, December 19th there was a Christmas Celebration for the Italian athletes and managers, at the Vatican with the final blessing of the Pope. Obviously Michele, Sergio, and I attended. It could be another good occasion to put in view the checkers/draughts world.”
