The USA National Tournaments this year in Kentucky are in memory of former World Champion and Kentucky resident, Don Lafferty (1933-1998). He was a great friend to all, an awesome math and physics teacher at a Kentucky school, and one of the world’s greatest checker players ever.

Every player in the youth tournament will receive a checkerboard set!. There will be dozens of checker books, hundreds of dollars in prizes, trophies and ribbons given away at this tournament. It is the first time it has been held in Louisville, KY.

Jim Morrison assisted Michael Holmes with the 2014 Youth National Tournament. Jim took his 3 granddaughters to participate and they were the only ones to show up.  The 7 year old Emma Morrison of Glasgow, Ky was declared winner of her age group and received $50 and a trophy. The 11 year old Hannah Morrison of Glasgow, Ky was declared winner of her age group and received $50 and a trophy. The 12 year old Katie Morrison of Cave City, Ky was declared winner of her age group and received $50 and a trophy. They played each other and the 11 year old Hannah Morrison of Glasgow Ky was the overall winner. She received another $50 and trophy as overall youth champion. The other two did not play to see who was second. I suppose they tied for second and third.  Jim Morrison reported by email Tue, Jul 29, 2014 at 9:16 AM
