"T" separates player's opponent from player's round game points: Draw is 1, Win is 2 points, Bye is 3, and Forfeit is 4.

In the 8:30am business meeting, Larry Keen, Director of West Tennessee Strawberry Festival Open Checker Tournament welcomed 24 players from 10 States: 8 from TN; 4 from KY; 3 from NC, 2 from GA, and OH, and 1 each from AL, IL, IN, LA, and MO. This group of players were divided into 14 Masters and 10 Major players. Teal Stanley was asked to give the opening tournament invocation.

Larry Keen introduced the Regions Bank Assistant Manager, Ms. Barbara Bunch (731-784-1122) who gave a warm welcome to all the West Tennessee Strawberry Tournament Players. We especially appreciate her welcoming the tournament, visitors, and allowing us to use the Regions Bank's main street building second floor for our venue. Larry turned the meeting over to Frank Davis, our West Tennessee Strawberry Tournament Director/Referee.

Frank Davis recognized Larry Keen for his outstanding job of organizing, gathering door prizes, and raising prize funds for this tournament.

Frank allowed several players to speak, including John Acker who talked about what he want to do if elected ACF President. Alex Moiseyev running as Player Representative also spoke about his future up coming challenge match for World Title 3-Move. Michael Holmes spoke about this year's National in Louisville, Kentucky scheduled for July 23rd through 27th and July 19th for our Youth National. He also spoke about his ideas on what should be the qualifications of an ACF President and how he would serve this position. JR Smith announced two upcoming tournaments; NC State Open May 16th & 17th, and the Missouri State GAYP in Branson, MO June 21st with a $4,000.00 prize fund, and the importance of supporting tournaments where effort has been placed on promoting and fund raising. Tournament flyers were available for both tourneys.

Our West Tennessee Strawberry Checker Tournament attendance of 24 compared to 29 players in 2013, 27 in 2012, 37 in 2011, 29 in 2010, 17 in 2009, 29 in 2008, 30 in 2007, 23 in 2006, and 22 in 2005. Ken Shultz was there to play but left Thursday evening after wife, Paralee become sick. Others called Frank & Larry wishing a successful tournament but regretfully saying they couldn't make this one.

Frank explained that Larry Keen wasn't from Humboldt. He has to drive in each day to work with local merchants, but did an excellent job in gathering lots of door prizes supplied by numerous local Humboldt merchants. Everyone received at least one door prize. There were several $25 Wal-Mart gift cards and several $25 gas gift cards, tool sets, local Humboldt restaurant discounts & coupons, and other nice prizes. Players' names are randomly drawn from a hat until all door prizes are given out.

Frank Davis covered the tournament schedule and playing rules with emphasis on how we would play 7 two and half hour rounds as 4 rounds Friday and 3 rounds Saturday. Frank explained how over time games would be handled (Posted Rules) If the game is not completed on time, then a move per minute for 10 minutes, if the move per minute does not create a decision, then the referee (Frank Davis) will make a decision for the results.

Re-pairing in Swiss rounds would be used only if necessary in the last round and only one time. Our Tournament Director decided, because of only 3 signed up for Minors, they should play up and this made 9 participants in Majors, so Lynn Steelman being the lowest rated Master, was asked if he would play down to make an even number Masters and Majors division playing Swiss in both groups. More review was explained by Davis concerning a player may request their 1st game completed by the referee's decision so their 2nd game of that round starts on time for equal time & fairness. It was discussed that after an hour you might concur with your opponent and record your position of the 1st game and start your 2nd game for fairness and later finish 1st game in the allotted time as opposed to requesting a judged conclusion if both players concurred. A motion was made, voted & passed to record 1st game. Also mentioned was a player may request the 40 moves count to conclude ending and Frank Davis has the jurisdiction to rule a draw. There will be a 3 point bye awarded as the first bye round if odd number; thereafter, to the lowest opponent; only two points per multiple byes will be awarded; if a player is 15 minutes late, then the game will be forfeited; if a player is 1 hour late or more, then both games will be forfeited; 4 points for a forfeit (2 per game).

We appreciated the donations and contributions from Humboldt of $2200. The entry fees were $20 X 24 = $480 and donations from players were $340. Total prize fund was $3,040.00 which was displayed on a poster board indicating all donations and fund amounts. Pay-Out is a few dollars more than posted prize fund because Frank rounds up to whole $ during pay out. Withdrawals are not awarded any prize funds. This is the richest tournament on the checker circuit excluding possibly the ACF Nationals.

Hugh & Peggy Burton attended the tournament. Wives and player friends attending were: Sue Tucker, Mickey Webster, Shirley Lerum, and Shirley's friend Judy Adams, Mary Davis, Susie West, Mamie Wethington, and others I probably missed.

We were served KFC Fried Chicken with all the trimmings and a variety of Hamburgers from Sonic and McDonald's for Lunch Friday. We had an assortment of Pizza and Tacos for Lunch on Saturday. We had delicious strawberry short cake with topping both days for dessert. There was coffee, bottle water, juices, soft drinks, etc. in the refrigerator available through out the tournament. There also were two nicely designed checkerboard cakes. They were beautiful and taste delicious. We appreciate the convenience of not having to leave the building for plenty of great food for lunch. You are well fed at Strawberry!

We appreciate Frank Davis, Tournament Director and Referee in addition to Mary Davis, scorekeeper who did a fantastic job as usual. We really appreciate these well run tourneys.

Most players enjoyed at least a couple good dinners with special friends at either Old Country Store in Jackson (Buffets/Cafeterias), Barnhill's Buffett, and Kappis Steakhouse across from Deerfield Inn, Humboldt, TN, or Barbeque at Reggi's BBQ in Jackson, TN. There are so many fine restaurants in the Humboldt / Jackson area.

It was rainy most of the weekend but clearing up Saturday afternoon.
