Here is Crist Miller's August 3, 2015 invitation letter and his 2015 Tournament Flyer that was mailed out shortly after last year's meet. We have extra air mattresses and plenty of private space to pitch a tent. The nearest hotels are in Orrville (about 15 miles / 25 minutes north) which has at least 8 and, Wooster (about 16 miles / 26 minutes northwest) and has at least 12 hotels or motels. Also Crist indicated that, "There are players from the local area who would be happy to be the host to an overnight guest as well, just ask and let it be known. "Dalton is about the same distance but no hotel. Travel Time: Greensboro, NC to Fredericksburg, OH 450 miles / 8hrs

  • Congratulations! to Clint Olsen from Kitchener Ontario, Canada as the winner of the 2015 (10th Annual) Mid-Ohio Open Checker Meet, and for his outstanding performance he was presented a handcrafted wooden engraved wall-clock created for the occasion.

  • Congratulations! to Abe Keim who has vastly improved as a Master Player and took 2nd place.
  • Crist had the playing room set up with plenty of tables & chairs, with boards & checkers provided on each. He also had a packet printed to record your games and keep up with everything.
  • Crist Miller has a 3-move deck which the referee has one of the opponents draw which determines the color and opening you play.
  • Prior to our 1:00 PM start time, Crist Miller, director of the 2015 Annual Mid-Ohio Checker Meet, opened our pre-tournament meeting with a moment of silent prayer and then warmly welcomed 13 checker enthusiast from 4 different states and Canada. Crist Miller covered the playing rules, tournament schedule, and discussed what amenities and lodging was available.
  • We appreciate Crist and Rosanna Miller for opening their home and hosting the 10th Annual Mid-Ohio Checker Meet and providing our playing facility. They did an exceptional job of planning, organizing, and sponsoring this checker meet. Mrs. Miller kept us supplied in treats, snack, coffee, water, and drinks through the tournament. Players could relax and help themselves to the refrigerator and ice chest anytime during our stay.
  • Rosanna is a wonderful hostess. She prepared Friday's lunch, dinner, and Saturday's breakfast and lunch. The food (delicious garden fresh sweet corn! & beef salami, meat loaf, and potato casserole!) and the hospitality was much more than expected. This was a most enjoyable weekend checker tournament with wonderful fellowship, delicious food, and top level checker competition right in the heart of Amish country. You will have to attend next year's meet to know what we are talking about!
  • "T" separates player's opponent from player's round game points: Draw is 1, Win is 2 points, Bye is 3, and Forfeit is 4.
  • Before and After Ratings are the results of a player's rating before this tournament and after it was recalculated from this score-sheet by ACF rating processor. |  icheckers ratings
  • Neil Wenberg had many of his checker books for sale.
  • The $20 entry fee covered all tournament and food expenses, with left over proceeds going to the Ohio Crippled Children's Fund. There was also a "tip the cook bucket."
  • The Annual Mid-Ohio Checker Meet alternates between “GAYP” and “3-Move” every other year, so it will be “GAYP” in 2016.
  • Everyone was invited to enjoy the campfire party planned for Friday evening after the 4th round for some music, singing, and the evening stars.  Lloyd Auker a gifted vocalist and accordionist entertained us with Amish folk, hymnals, and classic gospel songs. Abe Keim assisted Lloyd in the evening entertainment by some great yodeling. John Miller, Crist's brother had the fire blazing when we arrived. The crackling fire, glowing embers, flying sparks is a delightful and pleasant way to relax with friends. In addition to the log fire, John had a hollow log he placed over the campfire which added a display of flame and sparks. John is creative in making a fire produce extra magic display of colors of light as it burned like a chimney with flames and sparks shooting out the top.  You could really feel the heat and see the embers inside as it burned.  This was different than the vertical log he used last year.
  • Crist Miller mailed out 2016 Mid-Ohio Invitation Letter, 2015 Mid-Ohio Player List, 2015 Mid-Ohio Score-Sheet, and Dave Beachy's 2016 Sarasota Checker Meet Announcement.
  • Again, “A-Big-Thank-You” to Crist & Rosanna Miller for planning, organizing, & directing a Great Checker Meet.
