BLAINE ROLLS IN "BOARD GAMES MADNESS"
Tournament organizer Roger Blaine won the "Board Games Madness" mixed game tournament on Sunday afternoon, Mar. 27, 2011, at Fiddler's Hearth restaurant in South Bend. Blaine scored 7.5 out of 8 games, and Richard Biggs was second with 4.
Players in this event took turns choosing what to play from a list of 6 games. Only five players entered, so we played a double round robin and each player got to choose one out of the two with each opponent. Nine Men's Morris (or the game of Mill) was the most popular choice with 7 out of the 20 games; 4 games of Mancala were played, 3 each of Chinese Checkers and Pool Checkers, 2 of standard Checkers, and 1 of Big-Board or International Checkers. Blaine played some of each, drawing with Orlester Johnson in Pool Checkers.
Chess master Dennis Monokroussos, Bill Price and children, and Ted Knudsen came to watch and played a few games on the side. Our thanks again to the management of Fiddler's Hearth for providing gift cards for the top three prizes.
