    Mr. Donald W. “Don” Verble, age 84 of Jonesboro, died at 11:44 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017 in the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. He was born August 20, 1932 in Anna the son of Loel and Agnes (Ledbetter) Verble. He married Janet Tripp on December 22, 1953 in Anna.

    Don is survived by his loving wife, Janet (Tripp) Verble; son, Donald Verble Jr. and friend Debbie Tripp of Jonesboro; daughter, Joy (David) Roberts of Mt. Carmel; six grandchildren, Brandon (Tara) Sharp, Justin Sharp, Matt (Sara) Verble, Kyle Verble, Brooke (Mike) Ile and Tyler Roberts; six great-grandchildren, Alaina Ile, Easton Ile, Silas Roberts, Ethan Sharp, Alex Sharp and Jacob Sharp; brother, Loel Verble Jr. of Anna; sister, Jean Cauble of Carbondale; many friends and other relatives. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Loel and Agnes (Ledbetter) Verble; daughters, Jan Sharp and Vicki Lingle; daughter-in-law, Teresa Verble; brother, Carl Verble; father-in-law, Ernest Tripp; step father-in-law, Ralph (Isabel) Batson.

    Don was a barber for over 52 years on the Jonesboro square and was very dedicated to serving his fellow man in that capacity. He was a dedicated Christian who served in different ministries at the Anna First Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, serving as usher chairman and driving the church bus for many years.  Don was a quiet but dedicated bible scholar who loved to share the gospel and talk about how great God is.  He was a member of the Illinois Checker Association and had entered many different tournaments. 

    He won the Illinois State Checker Championship in 2002.    

    He served in the United States Air Force for six years during the Korean Conflict.


    Funeral Services for Mr. Donald W. “Don” Verble will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2017 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Les Sinks officiating.

    Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Scott Air Force Base Honor Guard.

    Interment will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2017 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

    Memorial Contributions may be made to the Carmi Baptist Childrens Home, Family Ministry Committee of the Anna First Baptist Church or the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
