Roger and his brother Rudolph were both active and excellent tournament checker players. They were both well liked, fine gentlemen, and both were Life-Time North Carolina Checker Association members. They will be missed, but they leave us with fond memories. Here is a newspaper article of the Wilson - Greenville - Kinston - Goldsboro checker gang playing at Heath's welding shop (picture). Roger played his last National, placing 9th in the Minors Division at the 2003 ACF National GAYP Checker Tournament in Anderson, SC - August 1st - 8th, held at Holiday Inn Express - Sponsored by Honea Path Merchants Association. Roger was a regular at our North Carolina State Opens and District IV Tournaments in the early 80's through 2004.  He placed 3rd in at the 2003 NC State Open at the Ahoskie Inn, Ahoskie, NC and 6th placed in the 2004 NC State Open in Kinston, NC tying with Wade Holder. Roger was usually in the top 1/5 of the field.
