Mike Garvey of 1242 Seven Lakes North, West End, NC 27376. Died Sunday morning, June 21, 2009. He was one of our newest life-time members of North Carolina Checker Association. Mike was the perfect gentleman, whether it was a win, loss, or draw when it comes to this wonderful mind sport. He was always happy, upbeat, and a pleasure to be around. Mike played in the 2008 11-Man National, 2008 Carolina Open, 2008 Burlington 11-Man, and our District 4. These were his last four tournaments. We will miss Mike as a checker player and his friendly fellowship. Mike was liked and loved by all the players who knew him through the North Carolina tournament circuit. We offer our prayers and sympathy to the Garvey Family and their friends.
