• Congratulations! To GM Jim Morrison from Glasgow, KY as a Co-Champion winner of the 2014 Missouri State GAYP Open Checker Tournament.
• Congratulations! To IM John Webster from Stoneville, NC as a Co-Champion winner of the 2014 Missouri State GAYP Open Checker Tournament.
• Jim and John split 1st and 2nd place cash prize money and received a trophy plaque at the closing ceremony presented by tournament director, George Stallsworth and tournament sponsor, Joe McDaniel. Although Jim and John were tied on game and honor points Jim won a game off John in their match round.
• Congratulations! To Brian Hinkle from O'Fallon, MO as the 2014 Missouri State GAYP Champion. Brian also joined the Missouri Checker Association.  MCA by-laws state, "A Missouri State Champion must be a resident of Missouri and be a current member of the Missouri Checker Association."
• GM stands for Grand Master, IM for International Master, and CM for Candidate Master, which are earned titles given by WCDF to distinguish players.

• "T" separates player's opponent from player's round game points: Draw is 1, Win is 2 points, Bye is 3, and Forfeit is 4.  (F) indicates a Forfeit and (wd) designates a Withdrawal.
• Players were welcomed to Ozark Valley Inn, Branson, MO by their marquee display sign.  There were plenty of directional signs to the playing room downstairs which was a nice spacious 30' x 90' conference room with a kitchen at the back.
• In the 8:00am business meeting, MCA President George Stallsworth welcomed 22 players to the 2014 Missouri State GAYP Open Checker Tournament from 12 States: 7 from MO; 4 from KY; and 2 from NC; and one each from FL, IN, IL, LA, MS, OH, OK, TN, TX.  We especially appreciated the Grandmaster and Master level checker talent from across the USA.
• George Stallsworth expressed our appreciation and gave credit to David Seres and Jeannie & Joe McDaniel for donating, raising the prize funds, and sponsoring this tournament. Joe and Jeannie also helped greatly with arranging the venue, planning, and organizing the tournament.  Alex Moiseyev spoke at the opening meeting, he thanked the tournament directors and sponsors and stated, "how important a well funded tourney improves the number of participants and level of talent."  George covered the tournament schedule of 6 rounds of Swiss as 45 minutes per game or 1 1/2 hour rounds.  Lunch, drinks, water, etc. were provided by the McDaniels, as well as the pizza dinner.  The Missouri Checker Association provided the trophies, doughnuts, cookies, candies, and the hotel provided coffee.
• Alex Moiseyev brought ACF Flyers as teaming up with the Alzheimer's Association and participating in an event called the "Longest Day" on June 21st. These were available to the players so they might give to this worthy cause.
• There was an entry fee of $10.00 which totaled to $220.00.  Missouri Checker Association allocated $200 to the Tournament Fund as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Missouri player's prize bonuses.  The Total Tournament Prize Fund was $5,225.00.
• Brian Hinkle was the top finishing Missouri Player and won 1st place Missouri Cash Bonus of $100.00, George Cook won 2nd place Missouri Cash Bonus of $60.00, and Mike Tilden won 3rd place Missouri Cash Bonus of $40.00.
• New tournament players enter the system at a 1600 point base rating. They increase or decrease their rating by playing with other "rated" players (more than 20 games).  Players are unrated (less than 20 games) until they have played at least 20 games. The unrated player can not change a rated player's rating no matter what the result.  The unrated player will decrease their rating if they draw or lose to a lower "rated" player or increase their rating if they draw or win against a higher "rated" player.  In the scenario two unrated players play each other, both their ratings will not change no matter what the result. (part of the Elo Rating System).
• Please note, this was Joe McDaniel and Mike Tilden's 1st rated tournament.  The before and after ratings illustrated on the spreadsheet are the results of a player's rating before this tournament and after it was recalculated from this score-sheet by the ACF rating processor.
• This was Mike Tilden's 1st ACF rated checker tournament, he is the actor "Zeke Hatfield" with Silver Dollar City and also has a leading part in the production of "The Shepherd of the Hills" an outdoor theatre play. It is a story of the Ozarks about love, loss, power, hardship, and the true meaning of life. 
• There were plenty of wives and at least one girl friend attending this tournament. Wayne Miller who become age 88 April 9 was recognized as the oldest player, and just 1 year older than Durwood Fogle.  Alex Holmes was the youngest, turned 15 on 2/28. 
• Checker players who enjoyed this tournament should send a "Thank You" note, card, or letter to David Seres and Jeannie and Joe McDaniel so they know we truly appreciate their interest and effort to promoting our passionate mind sport game - checkers.
• I also want to include Darlene Stallsworth's Wed, Jun 25, 2014 at 9:12 AM email comments: "Officially, June 21, 2014 was the beginning of summer and the longest day of the year. The Missouri GAYP tournament in Branson that day was also the longest one-day tournament I have ever played in. I want to thank David Seres of Newport Beach, California, and Joe and Jeannie McDaniel from Tulsa, Oklahoma for sponsoring this great tournament and the wonderful prize fund. Joe and Jeannie were great hosts and provided sandwiches, chips and drinks for lunch and pizza for supper. The Missouri Checker Association provided the trophies, doughnuts and cookies and the motel provided coffee. Twenty-two players from twelve states participated: Congratulations to JIM MORRISON and JOHN WEBSTER for winning the tournament and to BRIAN HINKLE for becoming the Missouri GAYP Champion."
• We appreciate Darlene Stallsworth's excellent work as pairing and score-keeping, and George Stallsworth as our officiating tournament referee.
• We appreciate Ozark Valley Inn for hosting our tournament, their meeting room, nice clean comfortable rooms, reasonable rates, continental breakfast, and other amenities.
• A delightful tournament & wonderful fellowship was had by all who attended. Branson offers excellent family vacation opportunities.
